A young couple wanted to put down roots in this 1960s era colonial, but it needed some work. The front steps had settled, detaching from the house. There was no level ground for the kids to play catch and no stairs from the driveway to front door for visitors. The driveway was angled making it hard to back out of the garage without striking the retaining wall. The siding, trim and shutters had extensive rot, and the windows were original, single-pane and leaky.
Working with the homeowners, my draftsman and landscape architect, we developed a plan to transform the home’s exterior appearance and flow. We added an elegant stone and wood covered front entry. Stone retaining walls provided a level front lawn and access from the street. A redesigned driveway provided safer access to the garage and better flow for visitors who could now reach the front door. Exterior repairs, new trim detail and replacement windows extended the home’s life, making it more distinctive, comfortable and energy-efficient at the same time.
